Rescue teams worked to evacuate trapped residents and provide emergency aid. In one dramatic incident, an 8-year-old girl survived seven hours trapped in a sewer after being swept away by floodwaters. A spectacular nova—designated V462 Lupi—has erupted suddenly in the constellation Lupus. This Day in History

On June 28, 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary and his wife, Sophie, visited Sarajevo, Bosnia. A secret group called the Black Hand wanted Bosnia to join Serbia. One member threw a bomb at their car, but it missed and injured others. Later, Franz Ferdinand decided to visit the injured in the hospital. On the way, their driver took a wrong turn by mistake and stopped to reverse. At that exact spot, Gavrilo Princip, another member of the group, was standing. He was shocked to see the Archduke right in front of him. He pulled out his gun and shot both Franz Ferdinand and Sophie, killing them. This assassination made Austria-Hungary angry, and they blamed Serbia, leading to World War I. It is amazing how a simple wrong turn, just a small random event, led to such a big war, changing countries, empires, and millions of lives forever.

Art of the Week

“将进酒” (Jiāng Jìn Jiǔ), or “Bring in the Wine,” was written by Li Bai, a famous Chinese poet from the Tang Dynasty. Li Bai loved writing poems about nature, freedom, and enjoying life. In this poem, he talks about how short life is and how we should live happily without worrying too much. He says that time moves fast like a flowing river and will never come back. He also reminds people that being sad or always chasing money and power is not good because those things don’t last forever. Instead, he encourages people to spend time with friends, enjoy beautiful moments, and live bravely and confidently. Even though he mentions wine in the poem, the deeper meaning is about living with a big and happy heart. This poem shows Li Bai’s strong spirit and free mind, which is why people still love and read it after more than a thousand years.
